Transfer And Re-Enrolment Rules
Transferring between programs
A student may transfer from one program to another, subject to the Ministry’s conditions and rules on the matter.
Transferring to the institute
Students transfer, and have their enrolment moved, to the institute from university faculties and other higher institutes in Egypt and abroad according to the Ministry of Higher Education’s rules on student transfers: the laws, regulations and ministerial decrees on the matter.
Transferring to a higher year
A student’s enrolment may be moved to a year above the first from any university faculty or any institute equivalent to the institute, provided the student meets the admission requirements of the institute’s bylaw, namely:
- Holding the total mark for the institute set by the coordination office in the year the student obtained the secondary school certificate or its equivalent.
- Having studied the courses of the lower years, without having failed or not studied at least two of the subjects set in the study regulations of the lower years.
- The transfer must not conflict with the rules governing transfers approved by the Ministry of Higher Education.
Enrolling by transfer from a non-equivalent faculty
Students may transfer to the institute from non-equivalent faculties, in which case they are enrolled in the first year of the branch that matches their secondary school certificate, or an equivalent certificate the institute accepts, provided they hold the total mark set by the coordination office for that certificate in the year they obtained it.
Students dismissed on disciplinary grounds
The institute does not enrol or accept the transfer of students dismissed from other faculties and institutes on disciplinary grounds, or of anyone whose activity violates public order in the state.
Students dismissed other than on disciplinary grounds from the military colleges or the police college, for unfitness for military life, may have their enrolment moved to institutes with a four-year course of study as new first-year students, provided they hold the total mark and the qualifying subjects, if any, of the year they obtained the general secondary certificate, and that they applied in the academic year in which they were dismissed, or at the latest in the following academic year if their dismissal took place after the start of studies at the institute in the year before their application.
In all cases, the student to be transferred must not have used up their chances of failing and must not have been dismissed for a disciplinary reason, and the approval of the head of the relevant central administration is required.
Students who have used up their chances of failing
The institute may admit students who have used up their chances of failing at faculties and higher institutes under the following rules:
- The student must have been enrolled at the faculty or higher institute in the academic year before the year they join the institute.
- The student must hold the general or Azhar secondary school certificate, or an equivalent, with a mark that qualified them for the institute in the year they obtained it.
- These students join the first year as new students, and their papers are submitted to the institute to be sent to the relevant administration at the Ministry; their admission requires the approval of the institute’s board, whose decision is endorsed by the Ministry’s central administration.
Transfer and re-enrolment
Students may be enrolled or re-enrolled in the following cases:
- A new student who did not complete their enrolment for an acceptable reason.
- A student who withdrew their papers while enrolled at the institute and gave a reason.
- A student who did not apply to the coordination office in the year they obtained the general secondary certificate, for an acceptable reason.
In all these cases the year counts as a notional failed year, which does not reduce the marks the student obtained in the examination for the year that passed without their enrolment; enrolment or re-enrolment is by decision of the head of the relevant central administration with the approval of the institute’s board, as the case may be.
Re-enrolment at the institute
A student may not be re-enrolled at the institute to obtain a qualification already obtained, although they may be re-enrolled in a program other than the one in which they were enrolled.
Enrolling in another program of the institute
A graduate holding the bachelor’s degree in one of the institute’s specializations may apply for a different branch, after the matter is put before the institute’s board, the subjects to be studied are set, and the supervising bodies of the Ministry of Higher Education approve.
Military Service
Deferred until the bachelor’s degree is obtained, up to the age of 28
